Diglipur, July 28: Acting promptly on media reports, the revenue department on Thursday reclaimed 3.71 hectares of government land removing cultivation at survey no. 84 located at RK Gram Village, Diglipur in North Andaman.
Andaman Sheekha in its edition on July 10 this year reported about large scale encroachment of government land at RK Gram Village allegedly on the behest of the Pradhan, RK Gram Panchayat, Shyamal Bhowmick.
Sources claimed that the Pradhan engaged several persons to encroach the government land for cultivation of ginger and other vegetables. Some of the persons even alleged that the Pradhan demanded money from them for the land.
Later, sources informed Andaman Sheekha that after the matter grabbed public attention, he allegedly returned the money to three farmers, but one of them refused the money.
Consequent to the media reports, the Revenue Authority passed orders to remove the encroachments immediately.
Complying the order, the revenue officials along with Tehsildar, Diglipur, RI Manoj Patwari and police reached the spot and removed the encroachments on survey no. 84.
The Revenue department has also urged general public to remain aware of unscrupulous/anti social elements and to intimate on 271888 about information about persons engaged in encroachment of government land to enable the authority initiate appropriate action.
