Port Blair, July 27: The Member of Parliament Shri Bishnu Pada Ray raised the issue of Botanical Garden of Haddo in Lok Sabha today.
During zero hour in his speech he said that the decision of developing the vacated area of the Mini Zoo into Botanical Garden was taken by the LG without consulting the elected Councilors of the Municipal Council.
Though it is a fact that the then Minister of State for Urban Development Shri Babul Supriyo during his visit in May 2015, to the place had said that the area can be utilized to provide houses to underprivileged, homeless people of the Haddo area, under ‘Pradhan Mantri Avas Yojna’, Shri Ray said.
But surprisingly the LG after 15 days decided to develop Botanical Park, though one such Park is already there in Sippighat, the MP informed.
Crores of money would be required for the project. The LG didn’t discuss about the Project with the MP, Councilors and other stakeholders and sought their views.
After that the Municipal Council passed a resolution stating that the vacant area of the mini Zoo should be used for ‘Housing for all’ Scheme. Calling it a dictatorial decision of the LG, the MP said that the project of the Botanical Garden should immediately be stopped.
