Port Blair, May 22: Mr. S.M. Krishna, Minister of External Affairs has written to the Lt. Governor that the request of the Administration for enhanced quota will be given due attention. The Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM had personally written to the Minister for increasing the quota of Haj seats for the UT of A & N Islands. The Lt. Governor had informed that our islands are located quite far from the mainland and due to their remote location it is extremely difficult for our muslim population to use the services of private tour operators on the mainland. Therefore, they have to be depend only on the Haj Committee quota to undertake this pilgrimage.
Lt. Governor had thus requested for intervention of the Minister in the matter to increase the number of seats to enable the interested applicants of the islands to be accommodated for Haj pilgrimage.
