Port Blair, July 08: The residents of Birchgunj, got frustrated last night, due to power outage for continuously for 5-6 times.“It was like the Electricity Department was testing our patience,” said Mrs Parvati, a resident of Birchgunj.
The residents of the area allege that without any prior information the Electricity Department continuously cut power, that too 5-6 times during the night hours, which added to their woes.
The administrator of the islands earlier in many occasions has directed the Electricity Department to inform the public or the residents of the particular area much earlier of the scheduled power cuts, so that the people can make alternate arrangements.
But it seems that the direction of the administrator has fallen in the deaf ears of the Bosses of the Electricity Department because of which ultimately the general public are suffering.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, a resident of Birchgunj, Mr Mukul Mondol said that just because of the unscheduled and continuous power cut he couldn’t sleep yesterday properly neither his child. “I request the Electricity Department to go for power cut only during the day time, so that we can atleast sleep properly,” Mr Mondol added.
Similar complaints were received from various parts of the city.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Superintendent Engineer Mr Uttam Kumar Paul said that as yesterday there were some disturbances in the South Andaman region due to heavy rain and wind, momentary faults where received as a result there were continuous power cuts.
