Port Blair, June 5: As part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a lecture cum demo on Waste/Garbage Management by Swachh Bharat Abhiyan mission team (Port Blair) was organized at Coast Guard Indoor Sports Complex in participation with PBMC and Agriculture Dept (A&N). Smt Raj Mahajan, Representative Member of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan nominated by the Member of Parliament, Mr Viyay Kumar, Senior Sanitary Inspector, PBMC and Mr RY Singh, Joint Director, Agriculture Dept. (A&N) and the team from PBMC conducted a lecture cum demo for the benefit of the families and personnel of Coast Guard on the basics and importance of effective garbage disposal/waste management. Methods of waste disposal like Recycling, Preparation of Vermi Compost and use of incineration to keep our surroundings more hygienic and clean as a part of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ drive, was explained.
The team enlightened the entire gathering the easy steps to be followed at home/offices in segregation of waste and disposal methods in converting the generated waste materials in to an efficient organic manure ie Vermi Compost for use in the garden of our houses/offices. Further, the team stressed on the importance of purchase of products made from recycled materials so that resources are saved for future generations and also to curb the significant increase in hazardous and non-integrated waste generation which is posing serious health concern. Innovative use of dry waste material as bags and decorative door mats was also displayed.
The novel idea of garbage management and the ongoing awareness programme of the PBMC as a part of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ to various sections of people and participation along with the uniformed service personnel would go a long way in making our society clean and green.
