Port Blair, May 25: The Councillors and officials of Municipal Council on Wednesday celebrated the Smart City success during a special meeting. The Chairperson, Smt Sheela Singh and other councillors congratulated the urban population and officials of the Council for their invaluable suggestions and efforts that enabled Port Blair make it to the final list of Smart Cities announced by the Urban Development Ministry on Tuesday. “The Smart City Proposal for the Port Blair city is a comprehensive document which captures dreams and aspirations of the common person of the city. It was due to constant suggestions, ideas and feedback of the citizens, the proposal could be strengthened and developed,” she said stressing on the need to ensure that all projects proposed should be implemented as per the guidelines of the Smart City Mission. The Councillors also lauded the hardwork and efforts put in by the officers and Smart City Project Team in preparing need based, detailed and robust proposals.
In the Fast Track Smart City CHALLENGE, the Ministry of Urban Development had allowed 23 cities to participate and directed them to revise their Smart City Proposal based on the inputs of the ministry given to them in the first round. The Municipal Council did extensive citizens consultation involving the Member of Parliament, Councillors and citizens to arrive at different projects proposed under Smart City under the overall guidance and support of the Andaman & Nicobar Administration.
