Port Blair, May 14: The Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM has directed the Art and Culture Department to carryout immediate restoration and restructure of the historic gallows of the Viper Island. The Island presently is in a state of neglect and very few tourists visit this Island despite its immense historical significance.
Tourism Department has already taken up for setting up of a 50 Yacht Marina Project at Viper Island which was selected for the Marina after a detailed feasibility study taking into consideration that it was an uninhabited Island.
To create more employment opportunity, the Tourism department is in the process of finalizing a Detailed Project Report for the holistic development of Viper Island as a tourist hub with a view to popularising and recognising the historical significance of the Island and the Gallows where many freedom fighters were executed in their struggle to achieve independence for the country.
