Port Blair, Apr 27: During the public meeting on 26 Apr 16, a group of parents of students studying at NIT Puducherry met the Lt Governor and handed over a petition from the students at NIT.
The Lt Governor explained to the parents that he is already in touch with the students and has directed the Puducherry Administration to visit NIT and talk to the students. It may be remembered that NIT is directly under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) with little role for the UT Administration. Above not withstanding, on LGs instructions a report/feed back had been sent to MHRD, who detailed an officer to visit NIT and understand the grievances of the students.
The LG has also directed local authorities to ensure basic facilities like food, water and electricity are made upto acceptable standards. He also assured the parents that the process of shifting to the new campus will be completed before next session. He also advised the students to call off their strike and concentrate on their forthcoming exams.
The students as well as parents have expressed their gratitude for the LG’s humane touch.
