Port Blair, April 27: The President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma in a letter to the Director General of Police, A & N Islands stated that temporary Iron Bailey bridges installed by APWD near Sippighat junction and Kali Mandir, Joda Kilan on Andaman Trunk Road have been closed by APWD as these bridges are not safe for heavy traffic. The bridges connects the Port Blair Town with rural villages of South Andaman district as well as the North & Middle Andaman District. All buses to rural villages of South Andaman and long route express buses including goods carriers travel through the area and traffic remains busy on the stretch on almost all days. However, after the closure of the bridge, routine traffic snarls are being reported from the adjacent old road which is narrow and not enough for two way traffic. Chaos is often reported from the area, said Mr Sharma requesting the Director of General Police to to provide adequate number of traffic police in both the locations for proper regulation of traffic.
