Port Blair, Apr 24: Alok Bora beat Arnold Anil Reddy to clinch the singles title in the RSC Open Table Tennis Tournament on Sunday. Organized by the Regional Sports Council, Port Blair, the tournament was held in the Multipurpose Hall of Netaji Stadium. In the Men’s Double category, Arnold Anil Reddy and Alok Bora defeated Linny Boye and Atul Kumar Gupta in straight sets. In the Women’s Singles division, Pearly Nicolas emerged winner while Jessie was adjudged the runners-up in the contest.
Congratulating the winners and runners-up paddlers, the Chairperson, Municipal Council, Smt Sheela Singh (also the Chairperson of RSC, Port Blair), said that efforts will be made to fill up deficiencies in sports in these islands. “Various shortcomings that hinder promotion of sports in this territory will be placed before the Administration so that remedial measures are taken on priority.” Smt Singh also gave away trophies and certificates to the winners and runners-up. Participation certificates were also distributed to all 51 players on the occasion. The Councillor of Ward no. 2, Mr Someswar Rao was also present on the occasion.
Earlier, the General Secretary of RSC Port Blair, Mr K Ganeshan inaugurated the Table Tennis Tournament in the morning and urged all players to participate with true sportsman spirit. Members of RSC Port Blair, Tournament Organizer, Mr Rakesh Chandra Lall and general public witnessed the inaugural function.
