Port Blair, Apr 18: On 16-04-2016 at about 0200 hrs a road accident case was reported at PS Aberdeen. According to the statement of one Shri J. Michael Raj (21) yrs R/o Garacharma, he alongwith his friends went to Corbyns Cove by their Motorcycle. One of his friend namely Prem Mondal (21) yrs R/o Prothrapur asked for the Motorcycle (KTM) bearing registration No. AN01/J-0230 for joy riding. On this, Shri Michael permitted him to ride his aforesaid Motorcycle but the said Prem Mondal without wearing helmet started the Motorcycle and went towards Mazar Pahar side and when he reached near Hornbill Nest, lost control and fell down into the sea infront of Hornbill Nest. Immediately he was rescued from the sea and taken to G.B. Pant Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.
On 16-04-2016 at about 2010 hrs in another road accident at Bathu Basti, it was revealed that on 16-04-2016 at about 2000 hrs one B. Raju heard some noise from the road. On this he immediately rushed to the spot and noticed that a scooty bearing registration No. AN01/K-2168 was lying on the road and it was further revealed that the rider of the said Scooty rode the said Scooty in a rash and negligent manner without wearing helmet and suddenly lost control resulting in his falling down on the road and sustaining head injuries. Immediately he was shifted to G.B. Pant Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.
During investigation it has been revealed that both the lives have been lost due to not wearing of a helmet while riding two wheelers. Despite massive drives being organized by the local & Traffic Police and despite vigorous efforts to create awareness, negligence on the part of the youth has cost them their precious lives. Hence the riders of two wheelers are requested to obey the traffic rules and always wear Helmet while riding their two wheelers.
