Port Blair, Apr 17: On 13-04-2016 at 1840 hrs a blind hit and run case vide Crime No.60/2016 U/s 279/338 IPC rws 134/187 M.V. Act 1988 was registered at PS Pahargaon. According to the statement of one witness, an oil tanker which came from Brookshabad area in a rash and negligent manner dashed a pedestrian. Thereafter, the driver of the aforesaid tanker fled away from the spot. Later the road users of the aforesaid area evacuated the said victim to G.B. Pant Hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. Immediately Police team of PS Pahargaon swung into action and apprehended the driver of said oil tanker namely Biatho Tirkey R/o Namunaghar and during sustained interrogation he confessed to his crime. Accordingly he was arrested and the said oil tanker bearing registration No. AN01/H-8427 was seized. Investigation of the case is in progress. Driver of heavy vehicles are once again directed not to drive their vehicles rashly and beyond the permissible speed limit, failing which, strict action will be initiated against them.
