Port Blair, Apr 17: The Andaman Mopla Conference was organized by Andaman Mopla Service Organization (AMSO) on 16th April 2016 at Ceepees Dawat Mahal, Wimberly Gunj. The day-long conference deliberated on various aspects of Mopla community including unity, empowerment, role of youth, history of the community and educational and economic status of the community.
Taking into account various factors, most of the speakers spoke about chalking out new programmes for the benefit of the community as well as the Islands.
Dr Francis Xavier, Principal, JNRM addressed the gathering as the Chief Guest elucidating about the progress made by the community. He also summarized a panel discussion on educational and economic status of the community.
Dr Prem Kishen, President Local Born Association addressing the gathering appealed the Pre-42 communities to come together and protect the rights of the early settlers.
Many senior members as well as youth of the community actively participated in the panel discussions and also suggested a roadmap for the future march of the community.
K M Hanif, President AMSO chaired the morning session. O Abdur Rahman, General Secretary presented a brief report of the activities of the organization. Earlier K P Aboobacker, Executive Committee Member welcomed the gathering and C P Mohammed, Advisory Member proposed vote of thanks. M K Abdul Gafoor, Convenor of the Conference compered the programme.
