Port Blair Apr 12: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration, along with rest of the Nation, has chalked out befitting programmes to mark the occasion of Panchayati Raj Day on 24th April commemorating the 73rd Constitutional Amendment by launching an elaborate campaign called “Gram Uday Se Bharat Uday” (meaning “Village development to country development”) to be held in three phases. In this connection, a meeting was held on 12.04.2016 under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary (i/c) Shri Raajiv Yaduvanshi, which was attended by Secretaries and Heads of departments. The Chief Secretary (i/c) issued directions to all concerned department to conduct the programmes on the respective dates by ensuring peoples participation. Besides, the State function at the state headquarter, programmes will also be held at District and Panchayat levels to elicit maximum participation.
The first phase will be from 14th to 16th April, 2016 focusing on social justice in connection with the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The second phase from 17th to 20th April, 2016 with emphasis on farmers and agricultural labourers. The third phase from 21th to 24th April, 2016 by organizing Gram Sabhas on these days with maximum participation of villagers, particularly Women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other marginalized groups.
The campaign aims at strengthening Panchayati Raj and through that to promote social harmony, enhance livelihoods of the poor and foster the well- being of farmers and agricultural labourers.
The celebrations will culminate on 24th April, 2016 with the address by Hon’ble Prime Minister to all the Gram Sabhas of the country from Jamshedpur. The detail programmes are as below:
The first phase i.e. Social Harmony Programme will begin on 14th April, 2016 in which respective Gram Pradhan/Panchayat Secretary shall pay homage in befitting manner to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar at 10:00 AM onwards at their Panchayat Bhavans/Community Hall. This will include Garlanding the photograph of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar; Taking oath to strengthen social harmony; Making people aware about the thoughts of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar; Expaining Govt. schemes to reduce inequality by sharing/distribution of literature on various social welfare programmes; Special health camps to be organised by Directorate of Social Welfare and Directorate of Health Services and Felicitation of bright children at Panchayat level in various fields i. e. education, sports, art and culture etc. by the Grams Pardhans at Panchayat level.
