Port Blair, April 8: The Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI) conducted one day training on scope and importance of flower cultivation at Campbell Bay recently. Mr. Barna Bas, Chairman, Tribal Council inaugurated the training programme which was coordinated by Dr. V. Baskaran, Senior Scientist, CIARI under the guidance and supervision of Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI.
The training programme was attended by 43 tribal farmers (17 male and 13 female farmers). The farmers were briefed about the importance and scope of flower cultivation, different uses of flowers, value addition of flowers and cultivation practices of flower crops like marigold, tuberose, jasmine, crossandra, heliconia and local roses. The tribal farmers showed much interest and readily accepted the technology and showed their willingness to extend the flower crop cultivation. The seeds of sweet corn were distributed to farmers.
