Port Blair, Mar 22: A meeting of Regional Sports Council, South Andaman was held on Monday in the Chamber of the Adhyaksha/Chairperson RSC, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman Smti Minati Biswas. The main agenda of the meeting was nomination of Members for the Management Committee of RSC(SA). The Council unanimously agreed upon the names of Mr Bharat Kumar Sharma in place of Mr Sanjay Meshack under the category of non-official member representing Clubs/Sports and Ms Deepti Das as an additional member under the category of Eminent Sports Person.
Discussion was also held on several major issues for the development of sports activities in the South Andaman region. Major among them were enhancement of fund allocated to the Council to a minimum of Rs 15 lakhs as it covers the largest jurisdiction of 33 Panchayats with four Panchayat Samitis namely Port Blair Panchayat Sarniti, Ferrargunj Panchayat Samiti, Little Andaman Panchayat Samiti and Campbell Bay Panchayat Samiti, imparting training to the Registered Youth Clubs for conducting Sports Events by the Department of Sports, promotion of sports activities with special attention to swimming, establishment of full -fledged swimming pool at Bambooflat, revenue generation, promotion of active Youth Clubs and Supply of Sports Materials to conduct sports activities.
