Port Blair, Mar 18: A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding was executed between Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad and Bharath Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) Port Blair for setting up permanent GPS Seismic observatories and early warning system in Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 35 location covering the entire length and breadth of Union Territory.
The agreement was signed between the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration with Director, INCOIS Dr. Satheesh C Shenoi and Chief General Manager, BSNL, Port Blair in presence of Principal Secretary (RR&DM) on 18th, March, 2016.
Under this agreement, the A&N Administration shall make available 35 clear sites for setting up permanent Tsunami Early Warning Sirens towers. INCOIS will provide access to VSAT connectivity. The BSNL will execute the whole work of providing Tsunami Early Warning Sirens as an external project.
This tripartite agreement paves new way for developing capabilities to improve the early warning system and strengthening of emergency communication equipment’s to cop up with any eventualities. The strong motion sensor, GPS receivers and meteorological sensors will be co-located with the real time V-SAT connectivity at 35 locations to be used for early warning, emergency communication and earthquake research.
