Port Blair, May 08: Participating in the proceedings of Lok Sabha Mr. Bishnu.Pada Ray, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands demanded Installation of Doppler Weather Radar in A & N Islands.
He said that A & N Islands fall under natural disaster zone and have been hit by another tsunami on 11 April 2012 at Indira Point (Great Nicobar Islands), when lives of 15 Govt. Servants were miraculously saved.
He mentioned that the A & N Administration had requested to the Govt, of India, Dept. Of Metrology vide their letter dt. 22/6/2010, for the installation of Doppler Weather Radar in the A & N Islands, in order to assess the Weather condition (Cyclone, thunder storm) but since last two years the file unattended. He added that even joint site inspection and selection by the representatives of the Metrological Deptt.has not been conducted.
The MP demanded installation of Doppler Weather Radar in A & N Islands immediately, viz -one at Port Blair, one at Campbell Bay, one at Diglipur and one at Car Nicobar to save the Islanders’ from natural disaster.
