Port Blair, May 08: It has been reported that some book shop owners are openly harassing parents and not selling them desired text books. It seems that these book-sellers have developed a unique strategy to arm-twist parents so that they can earn maximum profit before next session. Parents allege that most of the book shop owners force parents to buy the complete set of books from their shops and do not sell desired text books separately.
“If you get one book from Government Book Depot and a few other books from senior students the book shop owners will not sell, rest of the books to you. They insist on selling complete set so that they can make maximum profit by arm-twisting us,” said an angry parent.
As books are being sold in open market, naturally Administration can’t do much to protect parents, especially financial weak parents, from such exploitation but this nexus can be broken if the Government Book Depot functions properly and fulfils all needs of students.
