Port Blair, Mar 14: The training module on Achieving Universal Urban Sanitation being conducted for the Councillors and officials of the Municipal Council, Port Blair got underway on Monday at Bella Vista, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. The first day of the training covered topics on technology option for sanitation from capture to disposal and making cities open defecation free.
The Chairman, Court of Governor, Mr K Padmanabhaiah delivered the keynote address to the participants. Mr V Srinivas Chary, Professor and Head, Urban Governance, ASCI, spoke on achieving universal urban sanitation in India, Swachh Bharat Mission and Service level benchmarks. In the second session, Mr Damodaran, Founder and Director, Gramalaya, Tiruchirapalli shared his experience while making efforts in making urban areas in Tiruchirapalli open defecation free. Ms Sarah Habersack and Mr V Srinivas Chary trained on step by step approach for City Sanitation Planning. The Deputy Director, Janawani, Pune highlighted steps on integrated Municipal Waste Management in Pune, while Mr Rajesh Pal H, Director, Planning and infrastructure Consortium for DEWATS Dissemination Society, Karnataka spoke on technology options for sanitation – toilets, typology, treatment and disposal technologies.
Seven members of the Port Blair Municipal Council including Municipal Councillors, Mr K Ganeshan, Smt Anusiya Devi, Smt Vinita Malhotra, Mr Dharmendra Narayan, Junior Vice Chairperson, Mr SNN Gregory, Sanitary Officer, Mr Vijay Prasad Tiwari and Assistant Engineer (SWM) Abdul Wahab are attending the Program on Achieving Universal Urban Sanitation at Bella Vista, Hyderabad.
