Billyground, Dec 04: The 68thUN General Assembly has declared 2015 as the International Year of Soils (IYS), which aims to promote the importance of healthy soils and encourage the adoption of regenerative landscape management practices throughout the year, including celebration of World Soil Day on 5th December.
On this occasion ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North and Middle Andaman will be organizing a programme on “World Soil Health Day” and “Women in Agriculture Day” at Harinagar Panchayat to create awareness among farmers about the fundamental roles of soils for human’s life and to promote women in agriculture.
In the programme ICAR-KVK has planned to arrange lectures from the experts followed by distribution of about 100 soil health cards to farmers of North & Middle Andaman, for this soil collection and analysis was done in collaboration with NRM Division of ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
The programme will help the farmers to realize the prominent contributions of soils to food security, climate change adaptation and mitigation, essential ecosystem services, poverty alleviation, sustainable development and to maintain soil health for future generation.
