Port Blair, Dec 3: The Indian Navy will celebrate Navy Day on Dec 4, 2015 and a series of events have commenced since end November, as part of the Navy Week celebrations. The Indian Navy has had a rich legacy of contributing to social welfare causes on such occasions. For this year, Pranab Kanya Sangha and Seva Niketan orphanages of Port Blair received assistance from Naval Component of the Andaman and Nicobar Command. The Naval Component had established donation cells at various locations within the Naval premises for collection of donations. All the Naval personnel contributed generously towards the cause.
The Naval Component carried out external and internal painting of both ashrams, including the boundary walls and gates. Repairs of fans, tubelights, broken window panes, servicing of Aquaguard filters and electrical works were also undertaken. Training of children on operation of newly acquired fire extinguishers was also carried out. In addition, other requirements projected by the orphanages such as computers, inverters with battery, fire extinguishers, fans, tubelights with fittings, cupboards, games, sports items, school bags, stationery were also met by Naval Component. The items were procured and handed over to the orphanages during the event on Dec 1, 2015 by Naval Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) President Smt Nandita Kumar. A small cultural programme was presented by the children on the occasion. The chief guest of the event, Naval Component Commander, Commodore Deepak Kumar addressed the children and also inaugurated the recently installed Fire Fighting enclosure at Pranab Kanya Sangha and Seva Niketan.
