Diglipur, November 16: The “Andaman Motor Vehicle Drivers Union” Diglipur today staged a dharna against BJP workers of Diglipur.
Agitators alleged that Mr. Ajay Bairagi, Prabhari BJP of North Andaman and BJP worker Jyotirmoy Bawali have beaten up a driver of Maruti Ertiga, which was booked by them to travel from Port Blair to Diglipur.
The driver of the vehicle Maruti Ertiga AN01 J6250 Tapan Das alleged that when the vehicle reached Uttara Jetty the BJP leaders Ajay Bairagi and Jyotirmoy Bawali had beaten him and after reaching Kadamtala Jetty the key of the Vehicle was forcefully taken away by Ajay Bairagi and then he complained against him at PS Kadamtala.
The SHO of PS Kadamtala didn’t heard the drivers version and imposed him a fine for rash driving of Rs.1100/-.
After that the SHO gave the key to Ajay Bairagi who drove the vehicle up to Diglipur under heavy influence of Alcohol without having Driving License.
Today the driver reached CHC Diglipur for treatment as he had suffered injuries because of the beating.
Feeling aggrieved the drivers union staged a dharna at Children park in front of Administrative building at Diglipur.
The Pradesh Congress Committee President, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma and ZP member, Aerial bay Mr J .Boby sat on dharna and later met Asst Commissioner Diglipur in this regard who assured them of proper action in this regard.
