Port Blair, Nov 06: The two-day strike resorted by the daily rated mazdoors of the Road Construction Division, APWD, Wimberlygunj has been called off following an agreement reached between the ASNVMS and Executive Engineer, RCD, APWD on 4th November, 2015.
The strike was resorted to by the workers against the illegal retrenchment of some of the daily rated mazdoors. In the meeting held in the chamber of the Executive Engineer, RCD, the representatives of the Union pointed out that the retrenched workers were working in the RCD, Wimberlygunj continuously for the last several years and as such their dis-engagement will be resisted.
Finally, the Executive Engineer, RCD agreed to re-instate all the daily rated mazdoors who were on the rolls during October, 2015. The delegation of the Union comprised Shri B. Chandrachoodan, President, Shri M. Boominathan, General Secretary and Shri Anand Rajan.
