Port Blair, Sept 30: The Agriculture Department in association with the Education Department organized awareness programme on vermicomposting in various Schools and Higher Education Institutions of these islands on Monday as per the proposed programme for Swachh Bharat Campaign.
Officers visited schools and Colleges and conducted awareness amongst the students on vermicomposting, materials and methods for production of vermicompost and its benefits over other compost were dictated to students. Live specimen of earthworm suitable for vermicompost production was shown to the students. There was a feedback session when the participating students interacted and shown enthusiasm over this programme. They assured to make the best use of the organic waste available around by recycling through vermicomposting and keep their surroundings neat, clean and healthy.
