Port Blair, Sept 15: The SMS facility launched by the Election Commission in a move to make more people exercise their voting rights will surely simplify the process for them.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, the Director Panchayat and Municipal Elections, Mr V K Bhiduri said that the electors who need to know which polling station they have to cast their votes at can send a message with details of his or her Elector’s Photo Identity Card or Voter Identity Card (EPIC) number to 9434289934, for example type PRI2618114 to 9434289934, which will subsequently generate the voter’s name, serial number on the voter’s list, polling booth number and location.
“A continuous slew of measures are being implemented to increase the number of voters,”. DC said. Further he also urged the political party leaders for not using party symbols on the door slips as it is illegal as per MCC.
“Many have said this is convenient since they need not visit the polling booths a day before to check for their names on the list,” an islander said.
The district administration has also been carrying out voters awareness programmes in the islands to spread awareness of the upcoming elections to exercise their right to vote.
