It gives me immense pleasure to know that along with the rest of the country, the Andaman & Nicobar State Centre of Institution of Engineers (India) is celebrating 48th Engineer’s Day on 15th September, 2015 on the theme of “Engineering Challenges for Knowledge Era”. Engineers Day is celebrated every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendry Engineer Sir Visvesvarya.
Tremendous developments are taking place in science, technology and engineering world over and the knowledge has become the new currency of national economics. Engineers have a pre-eminent role in the knowledge economy. Technology manpower planning in the networked economy hinges on developing base of skilled and knowledgeable manpower of high caliber to usher in a talent-drive economic revolution.
I am glad that there is going to be a technical session, which I am sure would deliberate the theme in detail. In the long-term, it is hoped that both the Industry and Academia has equal responsibility to share to ensure that the engineers become ready to face the growing and ever-changing need in this knowledge era.
I extend my warm wishes to the Engineering fraternity of these islands on the 48th Engineers’ Day.
