Port Blair, Sept 11: The Indian Coast Guard evacuated an eight month pregnant lady in critical condition from Neil island on Friday. On receipt of information from the Health Department late on Thursday, the Coast Guard in coordination with HQANC sailed a fast interceptor Boat C-150 at 1 am to render assistance and effect medical evacuation from Neil Island. Asst Comdt S Sengwa, Commanding Officer ICGS C-150 taking due care in rough sea conditions safely brought the patient alongwith medical attendant to Port Blair at 4.30 am and the patient was swiftly shifted to the GB Pant Hospital for further treatment, said a CG release.
The Director of Health Services, Dr Shipra Paul sought assistance from MRCC for medical evacuation of Manisha Biswas, 19, resident of Sita Nagar, Neil Island, who developed hypertension with convulsions medically termed as ecclampsia and needed urgent medical attention. The entire operation was taken over by Dr Avijit Roy, NO (DM) and Mr VP Yadav, Dy. Commandant, MRCC. After being shifted to GB Pant Hospital, the patient was operated and the life of both the mother and child was saved by performing caesarean surgery by a team of Gynaecologists.
