Port Blair, Sept 3: Scuba diving camp for the Army and Navy NCC cadets was conducted by the Clearance Diving Unit under the aegis of Naval Component of ANC from Sept 1-3, 2015 to introduce cadets to scuba and recreational diving. The training was imparted in three phases. First phase was introduction to physiology of diving and the associated danger with diving in compressed air. In second phase, cadets were familiarised with principles and laws of diving and safety regulations whilst diving underwater. Diving in scuba sets was carried out in third phase. Other activities such as free swimming, fin swimming and snorkelling were also carried out, supervised by qualified diving instructors, who ensured observance of safety aspects at all times.
Altogether, 20 cadets comprising nine from Army NCC and eleven from Naval NCC including six female cadets participated in the camp. Certificates of participation were also awarded to the cadets on the final day. The Commanding Officers of Army and Navy NCC Units have expressed gratitude to Lt. Cdr Shailesh K Tyagi for the initiative and expressed hope that such trainings will also be conducted in future.
