I extend my best felicitations and good wishes to the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the auspicious occasion of our 69th Independence Day. It is an occasion to remind ourselves of the sacrifices made by our valiant freedom fighters. Let us, on this day, pay our homage to all those who took part in freedom struggle and pledge ourselves to safeguard this freedom.
Andaman & Nicobar Islands have a strong historical connection with the freedom struggle. The Cellular Jail stands as testimony to the sacrifices of our freedom fighters.
Today, these beautiful Islands, present themselves as a land of promise and progress. In the last one year, the pace of development in almost all spheres has been unprecedented. The achievements are there for all to see.
All this has been possible because of the resolve of the people of these islands to support the Administration in its efforts to progress on all fronts – be it the new Medical College or introduction of chartered flights and many more. It is heartening to see that the hopes and aspirations of our students and youth are becoming a reality.
Yet, there is still a lot more to be done. While the whole country is progressing under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji, the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands also wish to march ahead, and be at the forefront in all development activities.
On this Independence Day, let us all come together and resolve to take these Islands to greater prosperity, peace and progress. Let this be our homage to the freedom fighters.
Lt. Gen A K Singh (Retd)
