Port Blair, Aug 12: As part of Independence Day celebrations, the Indian Naval Ship Kesari will be open for visitors from 9 am to 5 pm on Aug 14, 2015. The ship will be berthed at Haddo Civil Jetty to facilitate the visit of citizens. INS Kesari is the largest amphibious ship available at Andaman & Nicobar Command. The ship is used to land army troops and vehicles during operations. During peacetime the ship can be used for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations as was done during the cyclone Hud-Hud which had devastated eastern coastal areas of mainland including Vishakhapatnam last year in October.
The ships of ANC will also be illuminated from 5.40 pm to 9.30 pm in the evening on Aug 14 and Aug 15. Three naval ships and two Coast Guard ships will be joining DSS ships in this show. These ships will be anchored between Marina Park and Ross Island during the period, a release from the A & N Command says.
