Port Blair, Aug 10: A Multispecialty health camp with special emphasis on school children was conducted at Kamorta Island recently by INHS Dhanvantari and INS Kardip of the Headquarters of Andaman and Nicobar Command. The camp was coordinated by INS Kardip with support from civil health authorities of Community Health Centre Kamorta. Medical screening was carried out prior to the Multispecialty Camp in various schools of Kamorta in order to screen children requiring specialist medical attention.
The medical team included an ENT Specialist, an Ophthalmologist and a Dental Surgeon from INHS Dhanvantari. It was augmented by doctors and Paramedic staff from Air force Station Carnic and INS Kardip.
Besides school students, tribal and local population also benefitted from the multispecialty Medical Camp. The Camp evoked enthusiastic response from the local population and it was attended by approximately 235 patients. The highlight of the Camp was detection of a serious illness affecting the brain in a 15 year old girl. She was immediately evacuated to GB Pant Hospital.
It was the fourth Camp as part of the on-going initiative to provide specialist health care facilities to inhabitants of the islands of the Andaman and Nicobar under the directives of Vice Admiral PK Chatterjee PVSM, AVSM, NM, Commander – in – Chief A&N Command, a release says.
