Port Blair, Aug 4: The Congress Party organized a dharna today at Tiranga Park to protest against the suspension of 25 Congress MPs in the Parliament. In his address, the President, Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma said that the NDA government wants to treat opposition parties like puppets in their hands. It is performing like a monarch and wants the opposition parties to follow its verdict without submitting any words against it. The autocratic ruling party has forgotten that we are living in a democracy, and the role of the opposition is crucial and important as it has to express the mood of the nation, he said.
Be the Land Acquisition bill or Vyapam Scam, the current government wants to get rid of these issues inside Parliament on their terms and conditions by suppressing the voice of the opposition and is totally undermining the role of the opposition. It seems that there is undeclared emergency across the country, he said.
Senior Congress leaders, Mr Swaroop lall, Mr K Muthu, PCC Vice President Haji Hamid Ali and Mr Sushil Mondal, District President (SA) RV Reddy, Mahila Congress President Shanta Laksman Singh, Chief of Seva dal Noor Islam, Chief Spokesperson K Ganeshan, General Secretaries Mohd Ali, Gyan Prakash Krishna,Aboobaker,ZP Adhyaksha Mariyam Bibi,SWB Chairperson Ratna Kannan, Chairperson PBMC Arumugham, PRI members, Abdul Aziz, Wimberligunge and other dignitaries participated in the demonstration. Speaking on the occasion, some leaders opined that the situation is fast changing and the people of India are now realizing the false assurances given by the BJP before election. They also spoke that; Truth will not be silenced in the case of corruptions and scams, where the Prime Minister is protecting the guilty. Despite heavy down pour, there was a heavy gathering of the party workers and supporters in the Dharna who were gathered to express their solidarity to the suspended MPs. “We stand with each of our suspended MPs” was the slogan of the Dharna.
