Port Blair, July 22: Several residents of Brichgunj have flayed the move of the Election Commission in delimiting the Brichgunj Ward. As per fresh delimitation of Municipal Constituencies, Brichngunj has been connected with Corbyn’s Cove Brookshabad. But residents claim that Brichgunj is absolutely not connected to Brookshabad. Objections forwarded to the Election Commissioner for UTs and top authorities proved futile, according to reports.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha, a political leader of Brichgunj, Mr Rajesh Ram said that residents of Brichgunj reach Corbyn’s Cove Brookshabad after crossing three Wards viz. Ward no. 23, 20 and 21. “As per the delimitation process, adjoining areas should be connected with roads, landmarks etc. But in the case of delimitation of Brichgunj, the norms were thrown to winds. Further as per the current delimitation, developmental activities in both the villages will be affected. Even in the past, Brichgunj Panchayat was connected with Calicut, located far away from Brichgunj, and developmental activities took a hit. Residents will face the same fate in future. Even representations to the top authorities failed to draw their attention towards the problem of Brichgunj,” said Mr Ram.
