Mayabunder, July 16: The Indian Coast Guard Station Mayabunder on 14 Jul 15 conducted a Mass awareness drive at Karmatang Village under the guidance of Coast Guard Regional Headquarters, Port Blair in Coordination with District Administration and fisheries department to spread awareness on coastal security and various safety aspects among fisherman, local populace and various departments.
The local populaces were briefed on the role played by them especially the Fishermen community in coastal security apparatus and stressed upon the fishermen to become eyes and ears at sea for the security agencies. In addition the Indian Coast Guard highlighted the importance of safety norms to be followed when fishing at sea especially monsoon period.The Station Medical Officer also briefed all present regarding First Aid application and CPR procedure during emergencies.
The Community interaction was attended by Officials from Police, Forest, Fisheries and IB.The programme helped in spreading awareness among the community and also will go a long way in developing fisherman as the front line of coastal security.
