Port Blair, July 12: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Port Blair has observed the “WORLD POPULATION DAY” on the theme “Khushal Parivaar ka Mantar, do Bachcho me tin saal ka Antaar” on 11th July 2015 in association with Andaman Mahila Mandal, Port Blair in the premises of Nehru Yuva Kendra, Port Blair.
On the occasion, Miss Rita Devi, Welfare Officer (Women), Directorate of Social Welfare, A & N Administration, Port Blair was the Chief Guest and Shri. Dilip Dixit, Senior Compiler, Directorate of Census Operations, A & N Islands was guest of honor. Smti Uma Devi, President, Andaman Mahila Mandal was also graced on the occasion.
Earlier, Shri Kundan Lal, District Youth Coordinator welcomed the Chief Guest and participants and in his speech he briefed about dynamic growth of world population. Shri. Dilip Dixit, in his speech clearly explained the details about the exploitation of population in our country. Further he said our policy makers should first and foremost be conscious that the needs of our education are different from the needs of the more technologically advanced nations if for no other reason than the fact that the latter are not baffled by the hazards of over population.
Whereas they need literacy and education in the general sense of the terms, we need to cope with the mess we have procreated. Our education must be tailored to help our people learn to think independently and prepare for the particular kind of plight they have been born into.
Chief Guest Miss Rita Devi also spoke that in early 1950s in India, women gave birth to an average of six children. The country faced a demographic time bomb and India was the first country to attempt to control population growth and emphasized to need to promote the social and economic development and welfare, the poor realize that it is children who provide them the only source of love and economic security in an increasingly hostile world.
