Port Blair, July 09: Shri B. Chandrachoodan, President, Vanvikas Karmachari Sangh (CITU) met the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration in the Secretariat today (9.7.2015) and brought to his notice the pathetic condition of the employees and workers working in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Forest & Plantation Development Corporation Ltd due to the non-payment of salary and wages to the employees and workers for the last three months. He informed the Chief Secretary that the employees and workers are living in a state of near starvation and some of the workers have committed suicide as they cannot pull on the days in this situation.
On the one hand the employees have not been paid the scales of pay of 6th Central Pay Commission and the workers are still getting the wages fixed during 1994, on the other, the management is not disbursing the salary and wages on time to the employees and workers thereby putting them into immense hardship. Shri Chandrachoodan requested the Chief Secretary to release the money which the Administration received from the Govt. of India for the disbursement of salary and wages to the employees and workers of the Corporation.
After hearing the entire issues, the Chief Secretary was kind enough to assure the Union that money for making payment of salary and wages to the employees and workers of the Forest Corporation for three months will be released by the Administration within three days.
The Union expressed its gratitude to the Chief Secretary for the assurance in this regard and requested him to take up the remaining issues/demands of the employees and workers of the Corporation with the Govt. of India.
