Port Blair, July 3: Islanders closely associated to the former Member of Parliament, Late Manoranjan Bhakta, have constituted a Manoranjan Bhakta Memorial Committee recently. The Committee will be headed by Mr Vishal Jolly, President, and will have Mr C Mohammed as Vice President, Mr Kunal Choudhury, General Secretary, Dr.R.K.Halder, Joint Secretary, P.Checku, Treasurer, Mr Vaidya Prakash, Organizing Secretary, Mr Teja, Joint Organizing Secretary and Mr Shyam Singh Yadav, Mr Manoranjan Mondal, Mr Sushil Mondal, Mr Nagen Halder, Mr Giri Paritosh Halder and Mr M.Raja as Members.
It was also decided to co-opt one member from each Island. Smt. Shanti Bhakta and Smt. Shanta Laxman Singh also agreed to act as Patron and Assistant Parton.
The Asthi Kalash was taken to North and Middle Andaman on July 1 and tributes were paid by islanders at Kadamtala, Bakultala, Rangat, Billiground, Mayabunder and Diglipur. During meetings held at the locations, office-bearers of Manoranjan Memorial Committee, representatives from various organisations, political parties including BANI highlighted the contribution of Late Bhakta in the development of these islands. The Ashti was, later, submerged at Rajiv Ghat, Kalpong River, said Mr C.Mohammed, Vice President, Manoranjan Memorial Committee.
