Port Blair, June 24: Mr. Oleg Ivanov, the Russian Crew who has been evacuated by Coast Guard yesterday from a foreign vessel MT SCF Caucasus, has been airlifted to Port Blair and brought to G B Pant Hospital this afternoon.
On 23 Jun 15, the Indian Coast Guard successfully evacuated an injured crew from a ship transiting from Qatar to Singapore. The vessel MT SCF Caucasus, had contacted Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Port Blair and informed that one of its crew, Mr. Oleg Ivanov, had sustained a deep laceration on his leg and had suffered substantial loss of blood.
On receipt of the message, necessary medical advice was provided by the Coast Guard Regional Medical Officer to the master of the vessel for stabilizing the patient and to prevent further deterioration in his condition. The vessel was thereafter directed to arrive off Campbell Bay.
The critically injured personnel was subsequently evacuated by the ICG medical team 4 Kms from the shore. The evacuation was undertaken in a small inflatable boat, braving the rough sea conditions prevailing in the area. The patient was thereafter shifted to the Primary Health Centre at Campbell Bay for necessary medical aid. The patient’s condition was stabilized and he was kept under observation for the night.
On 24 Jun, the patient was airlifted from Campbell Bay to Port Blair in a Pawn Hans Helicopter for further specialist treatment. Coast Guard Dornier in Ambulance role was also kept standby for any airlift assistance, a communiqué received from Commandant N Ravi, PRO Coast Guard.
