Port Blair, June 24: Andaman & Nicobar Police, has organised several awareness camps involving women all over the Islands. On 20/06/2015, P.S. Havelock conducted an awareness-cum-sensitization programme at Panchayat hall, Gogind Nagar-3, Havelock. The main objectives of the camp was to create awareness among the women folk about the provisions of Domestic Violence Act, Crime against Women and Children, Beti Bachao- Beti Padhao with a view to educate and empower the women. About 100 women from all walks of life attended this programme.
Shri B.Saigal, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Havelock addressed the gathering and explained in detail the provisions of POCSO Act, Domestic Violence Act, Child Labour Act, Child Marriage Act and other crimes against women and legal remedies available to the women. He also threw light upon the important directives issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court on the above subjects and also by Govt. of India from time to time. The Dy.SP appealed the all participants clear their doubts regarding all issues relating to Crime against women, Domestic Violence etc.
On this occasion Smti. Abla Samadhar, Member of Zilla Parishad, Shri. Ranjan Samadhar, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Govind Nagar, SI Vikash Singh, SHO PS Havelock, SI Mohd. Sameer and Lady SI Mariam also addressed the gathering and explained about the steps being taken by police for the safety and security of women community and children. All the speakers touched the present scenario, the crime trend and the role of police in protecting them from being victimized.
Similar awareness camp was held on 20/06/15 in the Senior Secondary School, Neil Island and Middle School, Sita Pur, Neil Island by SI Niranjan Ojha SHO PS Neil Island and Lady ASI Mayarani Biswas. About 107 school children and teachers participated in the programme.
The general public, particularly women folks and PRI members have appreciated the positive step taken by the A&N Police to sensitize the women folks. More such awareness programmes will be organized in the coming days to sensitize the women and children.
