Diglipur, June 16: An abandoned Road Roller in the middle of crowded Diglipur Bazar in North Andaman has become a cause of concern for the residents of the region.
The redundant machine, which has taken up space next to the main road since years, cramp traffic movement during rush hours and has also caused fatal accidents in past. But the agency that owns the obsolete machine, Workshop Division of APWD, remains unmoved to the plight of the residents.
“The Road Roller of the APWD has been lying discarded in the bazaar area for years now. It hampers movement of traffic in the busy road stretch as also obstructs pedestrian movements. Several accidents have also occurred in the last few years due to the obstruction in the main road. Two fatal accidents claimed two lives in past when the driver of the vehicle collided head on with the dumped Road-roller.
Besides, APWD remain indifferent to the problems of the residents of the region. Repeated pleas to the agency to shift the Road Roller to an alternate location proved futile,” claimed some residents of Diglipur.
The top brass of the APWD should immediately intervene to address the issue in Diglipur. The Incharge of the APWD Workshop Division of Diglipur should be instructed to take necessary steps to shift the Road Roller to an alternate location to alleviate the problems of the remote residents.
It is surprising to note that despite two fatal accidents, the concerned authorities are yet to act. Seems they are waiting for the third casualty. I am reporting this to @AK7CAV
