Port Blair, June 07: A team of National Security Guard (NSG) and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) from New Delhi on Saturday reached Port Blair to assist Andaman and Nicobar Police in finding the possible reasons behind the blast, which was reported at Brookshabad Garbage Dumping Yard of Port Blair city on June 3, killing two people.
Local investigators are leaving no stone unturned to find out the possible reason behind the minor blast but till now they have failed to understand the reason behind it.
It is reported that a six member team of NSG and BDDS reached the blast site this morning to conducted investigation.
“The team is re-building the entire scene to reach to the bottom of the case and find out the reason behind this blast, which can be because of formation of gasses,” a senior police officer told Andaman Sheekha today.
Two sanitary workers, Ganesh, aged 21 yrs and Yogaraj, aged 22 yrs, both residents of Brookshabad Tsunami shelter, were killed in a blast that took place at Port Blair’s Brookshabad Municipal Dumping Yard on June 3rd afternoon. The incident took place at around 2.20 pm, when a private truck carrying waste offloaded it in the dumping yard.
Sources inform that the truck belonged to a contractor serving for the Defence.
Soon after the waste was dumped, two labourers who had come along with the truck started picking up the scrap, which soon turned fatal as the blast occurred, killing one on the spot, while the other succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
