Port Blair, May 11: Apropos the press release issued by Andaman’s IP Division captioned ‘LG expresses displeasure on delay in action by Police’, which was published in various newspapers, the A&N Police has given clarification. Accordingly, in a press release received here today, the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District has mentioned that the Police Station, Pahargaon, infact, had already registered a case in the incident (accident) on the complaint of Smt. Kalpana Sethi, the very same day on Feb 27 this year – which is the day accident took place, under section 279, 338 IPC vide FIR No.43 dated 27.02.2015.
The accused driver George Thomas, driving the bus at the relevant time, too was arrested on the same day alongwith the said bus (AN 01-C-3463), seized in the case, after collecting credible evidence relating to accident.
In addition, Police has submitted relevant documents in the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) to expedite claim for compensation to victim and informed the victim undergoing treatment at GB Pant Hospital as an indoor patient.
“Investigation of the case is completed in all respect except for medical papers/documents and the charge sheet, therefore, will be filed when victim is discharged from Hospital,” the SP clarified.
The A&N Police is very prompt in registering FIR and taking action to its logical end, the release added.
