Port Blair, Apr 12: Yuvasakthi, an NGO working for the empowerment of Women and unemployed youths of these islands has been conducting a series of Vocational Training Programme (VTP) on Travel & Tourism Management under SDI Scheme of the Govt. of India. In a joint special session held in its VTP premises, it has conducted a host of programmes where experts from various walks of life gave in-depth ideas about various aspects of tourism.
During the session of the programmes, Mr. Venkatesh.Ch., Principal ITI, Dolly Gunj, Port Blair, Shri TSG. Bhaskar, President Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Shri D. Sathyamoorthy Deputy Chief Engineer, AHW made their presence available and appraised the folks of various aspects of tourism potential available in these islands.
Mr.Venkatesh.Ch., Principal ITI stood at length about a plethora of schemes offered under the SDI Scheme by the Govt. of India and also the schemes undertaken by the Yuvasakthi in collaboration with the ITI. While emphasizing the need to develop one’s individual personality in to-days competitive world, Mr.Venkatesh gave some suggestions about development of entrepreneurship in tourism sector.
Mr. T.S.G.Bhaskar, President, Chamber of Commerce and Industries elaborated about his experience in the field of Travel, tourism and hospitality Sector in these Islands. While talking about the potential of tourism sector in these islands in boosting the economy, Mr.Bhaskar informed the gathering that the Andaman & Nicobar Islands have witnessed a 12% growth in the tourism industry during the last two years.
Shri D.Sathyamoorthy, Deputy Chief Engineer AHW during his speech enlightened the participants about various opportunities available in the tourism sector and called upon the youths to take up travel and tourism as their option of entrepreneurship since these islands have great potential for tourism growth in days to come. While asserting that, the eco-tourism would play a vital role in boosting the overall tourism and hospitality industry in these islands, he emphasized that, the models adopted at other Asian countries could be adopted to promote health tourism in these Islands. Mr.Sathyamoorthy also emphasized the need to promote local handicraft products to attract the tourists as there are plenty of options for promoting local products.
At the end of the programme, an interactive session was held wherein students were given opportunity to put in their queries and seek clarifications.
