Port Blair, Apr 06: Like every year, the Directorate of Health Services A&N Administration will observe “World Health Day on 7th April 2015” with the theme: “Food Safety” in Andaman & Nicobar Islands along with rest of the country.
Food safety is an area of Public Health, requiring action to protect consumers from the risk of food poisoning and food borne diseases – acute or chronic. Food Safety has assumed great significance in recent times. Unsafe food creates a vicious cycle of disease and malnutrition, particularly affecting infants, young children, the elderly and the sick. Food poisoning and food borne diseases impede socio-economic development by straining the health care system, harming national economies, tourism and trade.
In order to protect the citizens from various food related hazards the food safety awareness programe will be organized on 7th April 2015 by all Health Institutions of A & N Islands involving PRI’s, Para Medical Personnel, Anganwadi workers, Youth Clubs, ASHAs and NGOs to create awareness among general public about Food Safety.
The Main function will be organized at Panchayat Samiti hall, Ferrargunj, South Andaman on 7th April 2015 at 10.30 A.M.
