Port Blair, Mar 23: Ensuring stringent action towards drug related enforcements in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has so far seized 37.54 kg of Ganja and arrested 19 people for drug peddling.
“During the ongoing drive conducted against the drugs in these islands between 31st December 2014 to till date, CID has succeeded in recovering 37.54 Kgs of Ganja and arresting 19 persons including 02 persons from mainland who were involved in these illegal activities,” the Superintendent of CID branch in Andaman informed media today.
Meanwhile, during the course of investigation of recent 1.1. kg Ganja case, CID has succeeded in arresting four more accused persons persons namely (1) Sushanta Sarkar R/o Diglipur, (2) K. Hanifa (64 yrs) R/o Tapu Basti, Bambooflat, (3) Smti. Hira Rani Mondal (36 yrs) R/o School Line and (4) Rishikesh Baroi (40 yrs) R/o Govind Nagar, Havelock No. 3 and has recovered a further quantity of 2.270 Kgs of Ganja.
“Further investigation of the case is in progress,” he added.
On December 31 2014, in a major success against narcotics smuggling into these Islands, a CID team today seized nearly 24 kilograms of Ganja and arrested two people from Port Blair city. 24 KG Ganja haul was the second biggest haul of narcotics so far in these Islands.
In December 2014 two Italian Tourists Mr. Virgili Nicola, 25 years and Miss Nadia Ghouti, 21 years were arrested from Andaman’s Havelock Island with 430 grams of Charas packed in 81 small packets.
