Port Blair, Mar 18: ICAR-Central Island Agriculture Research Institute (CIARI), Port Blair organized a One day Training on Development of Entrepreneurship Skills through Value Addition in Flower Crops on 17th March, 2015 at ATIC, CIARI for Home Science students of JNRM college. Dr. V. Baskaran, Senior Scientist (Horticulture) and Training Coordinator explained various techniques through which bouquet can be made with the availability of locally available raw materials. He also informed the students that by establishing a ornamental flower / bouquet shop, the economical conditions could be raised reasonably and local youth will certainly get self employment opportunities. Dr S. Dam Roy, Director, CIARI, appreciated the students for showing keen interest to learn the techniques which indeed very much desired for the youth of these islands. The students are the brand ambassador for disseminating the technology of CIARI, further he added. Shri. K. Venkatesan, Assistant Professor & HOD, Department of Home Science exhorted the students to utilize the skills learnt from CIARI for livelihood opportunities. Followed by the technical details, the students prepared bouquet from the flowers provided by the CIARI as part of hands on training. Around 22 students took part in the training and all of them prepared bouquet with aesthetic appeal.
