Port Blair, Mar 10: The National Cooperative Union of India, Cooperative Education Field Project, (Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperation), A & N Island Unit is association with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has organized a inaugural programme for 13 days duration “Advance Training Course on Handicraft with Cane & Bamboo at Panchayat Hall, Dollygunuj yesterday.
Shri G. Tarai, General Manager, NABARD was the chief guest on the occasion while Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A & N State Cooperative Union was the guest of honour.
The chief guest lauded the efforts of the National Cooperative Union of India, Cooperative Education Field Project, A & N Island Unit for organizing such meaningful training for the ultimate benefit of women folk/members of Self Help Group living at the grass root level of the society. Addressing the gathering Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A & N State Coop. Union said that self help group is the best means of economic and social reform.
He said that through this training programme, a large number of house wives living in adjacent areas will be trained to work on handicraft with this skill they will be able to earn some money for their respective families as the leisure time by obtaining bank loan through their respective Self Help Groups. Welcoming the gathering Shri Surendra Nath Singh, Project Officer, NCUI-CEFP, A & N Island unit has said that there are large scope for the rural women to establish their self employment based on availability of raw materials, handicraft from cane & bamboo is one of income oriented opportunities.
He urged the women members of SHG to take more advantage of such training programme and implemented in the field. Shri Anant Rao, General Secretary, A&N State Coop. Union in his address urged the needs of women member of Self Help Group to active participation in the field of income generating activities. Shri L. B. Singh, Subject matter specialist (Horticulture), KVK highlighted on the schemes based on handicraft which may help the women member to establish their self employment unit.
Shri A. Basu, Sr. Manager, ANCON, Shri K. Kumaravel, Officer incharge, Handicraft department, Govt. of India, Port Blair has enlighten on the scheme based on handicraft available with their department. Smti Purnima Devi, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Dollygunj also delivered her speech on the occasion. 30 women member of different self help group are participating in the training course.
