Car Nicobar, Mar 09: Youths in Car Nicobar who had applied for the post of Regular Mazdoor in Forest Department have cried foul over delay in sending ships to Car Nicobar. According to reports, the Physical Test for the post of Forest Mazdoor is scheduled on 11.03.2015 and there are nearly a dozen of candidates at Car Nicobar who will not be able to attend the interview for no fault from their side.
According to reports on 28 February, MV Dering had reached Car Nicobar and after MV Dering no ship was sent to Car Nicobar and hence there is no way they can reach Port Blair before 11 March.
“We are working as DRM and can’t afford to buy helicopter tickets, which is anyway difficult to get. We called the shipping helpline number several time but everytime we got only one reply that there is no ship available for Car Nicobar,” said an angry youth.
Youths of Car Nicobar now urge the Chief Secretary to intervene into this matter and postpone the Physical test of Forest Mazdoors as non-availability of ship is Administration’s problem and not the mistake of unemployed youths.
Every year during summer vacation there is shortage of ships and this year because of this shortage, MV Campbell Bay has been withdrawn from Inter-Island sector and pressed into mainland sector, disrupting the normal schedule of ships in Inter-Island sector. However, senior officials of Shipping Department were unavailable for a comment in this regard.
