Port Blair, Mar 03: The Animal Science Division of ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute in collaboration with Directorate of AH & VS, A & N Administration organized one day awareness programme on “Prevention and Control of Foot and Mouth Disease in cattle” at Rangachang Veterinary Hospital on 3rd march 2015. Altogether 32 farmers participated in the awareness programme.
Smti. Maimuna, Gram Pradhan, Boednabad Panchayat was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the awareness programme. She appreciated the effort of CIARI for organising the awareness programme on foot and mouth disease at Rangachang village. Speaking on occasion, she informed that the farmers especially the lady farmers of this area is very much interested in the dairy activity and will take active participation for the joint effort for successful implementation of the FMD control programme. She urged all the farmers to join hands together with the CIARI and DAH&VS for control and eradication of this disease from A & N Islands.
Dr. M. S. Kundu, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIARI spoke on the importance and significance of FMD control programme. He also highlighted about the role of farmers in diagnosis control and prevention of the disease. He urged all the farmers to cooperate with the FMD control programme so that all the animals could be covered under the umbrella of vaccination coverage.
Dr. Jai Sunder, Sr. Scientist & Principal Investigator of the FMD Control Programme, CIARI explained in detail about the causes, symptoms, treatment and control measures of the FMD in livestock. He also replied to the several queries raised by the farmers for the treatment and control of the FMD.
Dr. K. Mohammed, Sr. Veterinary Officer, Garacharma, DAH&VS, A & N Administration gave brief overview of the FMD and the importance of vaccination programmes initiated by the Department. He informed that 17 round of vaccination have already been over and 18th round will start in March 2nd week. He also requested the farmers for all the support and benefit from the Department for the development and progress of animal husbandry activities in the area. Earlier Dr. Baljit Kaur, SVO, Rangachang Veterinary Hospital welcomed the gathering and also concluded the programme by giving vote of thanks.
